Jaf joined The Foundation in April 2008 and is based in the London office. He has substantial experience in marketing, fundraising, capacity development and project management and has worked for several non-profit and social justice organisations.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Jaf worked as Director of Fundraising and Finance at Providence Row, a respected charity for the homeless in London city and East End. Jaf was instrumental in developing new and improved fundraising systems, secured significant corporate donations to fund projects and refreshed the charity's corporate image and communications.
His success followed from a previous role as Director of Marketing and Fundraising (2001-2005) for Computer Aid International, a non-profit supplier of computer hardware to developing countries. Jaf secured over £600,000 in donations and thousands of computers from large UK based corporations, all of which were then distributed to schools, universities and community organisations in over 70 developing countries.
Jaf’s interest in Africa began when working as Projects Manager (1992-1998) for CODA International Training, a not-for-profit organisation working to build the capacity of civil society organisations in Africa and Central America.
Jaf worked on various initiatives throughout South Africa including a project to support ex-combatant organisations in the Western Cape, developing their capacity to achieve their goals more effectively.
Jaf sees great potential for The Fred Hollows Foundation in the UK. He aims to build its local supporter base so that the organisation can expand its support of eye health programs in Nepal and in other developing countries.
