October 13 is World Sight Day, a day to consider the 39 million blind people across the world. Sight organisations have made vast progress in the battle to eliminate avoidable blindness, but we still have a way to go.
Help us eliminate avoidable blindness
-
Approximately 284 million people worldwide live with low vision and blindness
-
Of these, 39 million people are blind and 245 million have low vision
-
90% of blind people live in low-income countries
-
Yet 80% of blindness is avoidable - i.e. readily treatable and/or preventable.
